Section 1.01 Connection to the server has failed, account mail.gusaol.com
Restart the computer and try again. Does the problem persist?
Have you installed Norton Antivirus lately? If so NAV can cause problems with your current email settings. You will need to reconfigure your mail account settings. Click Tools, Accounts and then check and make sure the settings are correct.
Check your mail account settings under Tools and Accounts.
Section 1.02 Server rejected senders email address
Verify your Internet connection
Check your mail account settings under Tools and Accounts.
Remove any emails in the Outbox
Try to check your email again
Section 1.03 The host mail.gusaol.com could not be found
This is due to an invalid Internet connection or incorrect email account settings. You will need to verify both of these.
Verify your Internet connection
Check your mail account settings under Tools and Accounts
Try to check your email again.
Restart the computer and try again. Does the problem persist?
Section 1.04 Why am I always disconnected from the Internet after checking my email?
This is a very common issue and can be easily fixed by doing the following:
Open Outlook Express. Click Tools, Options, and Mail Delivery. If “hang up when finished sending, receiving or updating” is checked then uncheck it. You should no longer be disconnected from the Internet after using Outlook Express.
Section 1.05 I have more than one email address for different members of the family
Your normally have two options:
Create “Identity's”. To do this open Outlook Express, click File, Identities, Add New Identity and type in your name. If you want a password to be required for anyone in your household to be able to send/receive email with your account then click “require a password”. If you click “new password” then type in a password in both the password and confirm password boxes (both of these need to be the SAME password). Click Ok. Now setup your email account under Tools, and Accounts. To setup another persons email address with an identity, create a new Identity like as explained above, logon to that identity and setup a new email address under Tools and Accounts.
Login under different names in Windows. Your Outlook Express settings will be unique to each Windows account.
Section 1.06 How do I know if my email was sent successfully? (Outlook Express)
The first indication that an email was sent correctly will be if you receive no errors after clicking the send/receive button.
Click the “Sent Items” folder. If your email was sent, it should show up in the Sent Items folder. A copy of every email you send (successfully) is placed in this folder.
v If you can not seem to get an email to send correctly, after making changes to settings in Outlook Express, delete the email and re-type it. An email that was not sent successfully before correcting changes were made to OE settings will usually not send because that email thinks it is still using the old settings.
Section 1.07 How do I block someone from sending me email? (Outlook Express)
Open Outlook Express, click once on an email from the sender that you wish to block (to select it), Click Message (at the top menu bar), and click “Block Sender”. Now click Yes, and Ok. The email address the person is sending from should now be blocked and you will receive no further messages from that email address.
v If you wish to specify certain email addresses to block manually do the following. Open Outlook Express, click Tools, Message Rules, Blocked Senders List, and Add. Type in the email address that you wish to block. Select “Mail and News Messages” and click Ok. The email address is now blocked.
Section 1.08 I am not able to send email in Outlook Express
Verify that your account settings are correct in Outlook Express.
Try deleting the email that you are trying to send, retyping it (or just use copy and paste) and then resending.
Is the email address that you entered correct?
Restart the computer and try again. Does the problem persist?
Section 1.09 When receiving email I get an error after a long period of time
This is caused due to someone sending the recipient a very large email. Outlook Express can not handle downloading large emails so you will need to use WebMail to remove the large email attachment or download the attachment and then remove it (if you want the attachment).
If someone has sent you an email message with a large attachment, you may have difficulty downloading the message (and attachment) with your regular email program. If so, use WebMail to download the attachment. Then, still using WebMail, delete the email message along with the attachment. After the attachment is removed from Global USA Online's mail server, your email program should work correctly.
Section 1.10 I am receiving a “relay denied” error when sending email
This is caused by an invalid specified SMTP outgoing email server address. If you have more than one ISP or use more than one email server to send emails then this is causing the problem.
Remove the email that you are trying to send. Click Tools, Accounts, and Mail. Double-click your Global USA Online email address and make sure the incoming and outgoing email server addresses are correct (should be mail.gusaol.com for both).
Make sure the email address that you are trying to send from is specific as Default. Click Tools, Accounts, Mail, and click once on the email address you wish to send from. Click “Set as Default”. Now retype the email message and try re-sending it.
